What in tarnation is this!?

[The gear feed opens on the ground, half-obscured by grass. Not too far in the distance, a young, fair-skinned girl sits shakily on her knees, her face obscured by a ten-gallon hat and a large golden ponytail. Her knees are scuffed and her face is dirty, signs she just fell from her feet. However, rather than trying to get back up, she remains on her knees, staring at her hands in disbelief.]

I swear... [She pants.] I swear... if this is one of your tricks, Discord... [She tries to get back on her feet, but stumbles backwards. Her hat falls off her head, revealing her freckled face and shocking green eyes.]

You ain't gonna have any teeth when I'm through with you!!

[She blinks.]

Y-yeah. It's me.

[She's having the hardest time recognizing even her friends from her world, she leans in close to examine the man in the video.]

Do I... know you?

_{[Oh. Well. In all honesty he'd expected that response. So he goes into a sort of ... kind business-like approach.]}

Apparently not. Have you gotten the rundown on how things work here?

Fluttershy's been showin' me the ropes. I just can't seem to work these legs quite right.

[She wiggles her left leg awkwardly. Balance? Not so much.]

You'll get a hang of it soon enough. The other ponies all got used to the human body pretty quickly.

_{[Including AJ herself, of course.]}

That's what I'm hopin' for. Fluttershy says she's a month away, in Goldenrod. If I'm gonna get to her, I better hurry up an' figure it out.

_{[He can't help a fond smile.]}

[She tips her hat, smiling wide.] A real pleasure to meet ya. I take it you've been here a while?

[Long enough to know her from before? She wishes she could remember. These people all seem so nice.]

_{[So yeah, he'd known her - had been there to welcome her to Johto back then as well.]}

[Some things just never change. And that's a good thing.]

I'm sorry to hear that. You're takin' it well, I hope?

Some days more than others. _{[Almost a shrug in his voice, really - he's okay with Johto.]} To be honest there's been days I haven't wanted to leave.

That'd sure make for one interestin' day.

[She's not sure how she feels about that. Part of her wants that to happen. It would mean she was comfortable with this-- something she's not sure she'll ever entirely be. The other part of her doesn't want it. How could she think of another place better than her home?]

_{[Sensing this, he smiles gently.]}

You'll see what I mean. We're still looking for a way home, but so far we've come up short. Might as well take the time to enjoy it while it lasts.

[She nods in response, shuffling her feet a moment to kick up dirt as she walks.]

I reckon so. Might be nice to take a vacation. [A potentially years-long vacation.]

...You wouldn't happen to be too far off, would'ya? [Because everyone she knows is forever away. ;~;]

_{[Oh man he's. probably even further off.]}

I am, actually. Sorry about that. _{[Genuinely sorry - he misses spending time with her, even if she doesn't remember him this time around. A very brief pause, then:]}

But you can always get in touch with the 'gear if you'd like. Do you know how to use it?

Oh. That's a shame. [She looks down at her 'gear, tracing a couple of buttons with her fingers.]

I'm afraid it's a bit more advanced than what I'm used to.

I'm not surprised. It doesn't strike me as anything that would be all that common in your world.

_{[He'd show her, but since the gear is what he's using to communicate ...]}

Touch the symbols on the screen and pick the right number. We all have different ones.

[The camera may spin and turn a little bit as she examines the 'gear. She won't mess with it now, for fear of cutting the feed, but know that she'll be up all night trying to figure it out.]

_{["Coop", huh? He likes hearing that again. No one else in Johto ever calls him that, funnily enough.]}

[Her smile grows larger, warmer. She looks down at her Growlithe, who happily barks, running circles around her master.]

That's the wisest thing I've ever heard, I reckon.

Shame I can't take credit for it.

_{[He hears the barking and looks curious.]}

That your starter?

[She grins and nods. How could she forget to introduce her starter? She bends down lightly, scooping the pup into her arms after chasing her a bit.]

Coop, meet Jessie~!

_{[A growlithe? That's funny. She used to have one -- well, now an Arcanine. Things sure have a funny way of working out.]}

Hi there, Jessie. _{[She's cute. He takes a moment to grin at her before looking back up to AJ.]} Looks like a sharp one.

[Jessie responds with a bark, her tail wagging so much that AJ is forced to put her down.]

She's as smart as a whip! Real energetic, too. She hasn't stopped moving since I let her out of her ball.

_{[That makes him laugh, a little. It's surprisingly easy to fall back into talking with AJ like this and he's grateful for that - thought it would have been much more difficult.]}

Then you might want to keep an eye on her. Do you know what she'll look like fully grown?

[AJ's happy to have (re)made a friend, as well. This was a really awkward time for her, and she's clinging on to friendly faces right now, though she'd never admit that.]

Fully grown? I figured she was just a pup, but the thought never came into my head.
