001 Bushels ❦ [Video]

What in tarnation is this!?

[The gear feed opens on the ground, half-obscured by grass. Not too far in the distance, a young, fair-skinned girl sits shakily on her knees, her face obscured by a ten-gallon hat and a large golden ponytail. Her knees are scuffed and her face is dirty, signs she just fell from her feet. However, rather than trying to get back up, she remains on her knees, staring at her hands in disbelief.]

I swear... [She pants.] I swear... if this is one of your tricks, Discord... [She tries to get back on her feet, but stumbles backwards. Her hat falls off her head, revealing her freckled face and shocking green eyes.]

You ain't gonna have any teeth when I'm through with you!!

_{['Sugarcube'. That's a word for sore ears-- Applejack's the only one Heather's ever heard refer to other people as that before. She offers a friendly, crooked smile.]}

Yeeaaaah, this place is pretty wacky, not gonna lie.

It grows on you, though!

I hope so, because so far this place just ain't like home.

Heh... yeah, it's not like my home either. _{[But in Heather's case... that's a good thing. A very good thing.]</sub.}

[She wouldn't admit it, but with baddies like Discord and Nightmare Moon, this world is probably safer, too.]

Nothin' I can do now but get used to this place. At least Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are here, so I won't be traveling alone for long.

[She pauses, distracted by a feint bark.] --An' Jessie, a'course.

_{[I wouldn't bank on THAT... there's been some pretty nasty critters popping up from time to time in Johto... just ask anyone who was there over the summer about the soul-stealing cicadas, for example. But nothing like Discord, thank goodness.]}

--Jessie?

You got a n-- ... what's your starter?

_{[Saying 'you got a new starter' probably wasn't the right thing to go with.]}

Jessie's my Growlithe~!

[She leans down, lifting Jessie off the ground and presenting her to the camera.]

She's just a pup right now, but she's already real tough~.

Oh, HEY! We got the same thing!

_{[She starts to turn the camera and sort of... pauses.]}

Mine... is not a pup anymore. Actually, he's just sort of a monstrosity. _{[... Which is what happens when you have a Growlithe for a year, do not evolve it, and feed it table scraps even though you know you're not supposed to.]}

C'mere, Cooj-- ACK!

_{[... And then the camera is engulfed by orange and happy, because a Growlithe the size of a Saint Bernard saw a 'little me' on the screen and decided to say hello.]}

[Jessie responds by barking at the new Growlithe on the 'gear. She wags her tail, trying to leap from AJ's arms.]

Jessie! Calm down girl!

_{[A pair of gangly, freckled arms snakes around the mound of cream-colored fluff that makes up the Growlithe's neck and mane, and after a second or two, Heather is able to shove him away from the screen. He'd left several large enthusiastic noseprints on it beforehand, though.]}

Rrrk-- sorry about that, he's... enthusiastic.

[Luckily for AJ, she has an easier time dealing with her much smaller Growlithe. After a bit of wrestling, she ops to just let Jessie back on the ground.]

I wonder if she's ever seen another Growlithe, before that. I've never seen her act like that.

They do get pretty excited when they see others of their own kind-- DOWN, boy.

_{[Cujo had always been a pretty big pup, but he's... a bit too big to fit into Heather's lap. Which is what he's trying to do. ... ALWAYS trying to do, pretty much.]}

He's a big 'ne, too. I bet he's real tough in battle!

He's strong, no doubt about it.

_{[... he's also dumb as a brick, though, so... there's that.]

[A muffled snort escapes her as the shaggy dog Pokemon shoves his nose under her chin, smiling a great big doggy-smile.]}

But I've been here a year, soooo...

A year? An' here I thought my four days was a long time...

Yeah, well... I don't mind.

Not everybody stays for that long, though, so... don't worry about it too much.

[She nods]

Well... my friends're here, too. And I ain't leavin' without them. So I might as well enjoy myself for the time bein'.

_{[Heather smiles in return. It's ... nice to know that Applejack hasn't changed. Sometimes people DO when they come back-- a LOT. But then, she'd always been the sturdy, dependable type, huh?]}

That's the right kinda attitude!
